Cyclophosphamide is an adequate immunosuppressive agent for untransfused patients but may not provide adequate immunosuppression for multiply transfused and potentially sensitized recipients. For sensitized patients, further immunosuppression with total body or total lymphoid irradiation, antithymocyte globulin, and/or procarbazine is required.
