Definition An illness in humans caused by Salmonella. Common symptoms are nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, and sometimes vomiting. Although the illness is generally regarded as a relatively mild disease, death can occur in some cases, especially for the very young, very old, or immunocompromised. Salmonellosis usually appears six to seventy-four hours after eating food and lasts for a day or two.
