Three months post SCT, at a time when cyclosporine levels were low, her hemoglobin and leucocyte counts dropped and she became transfusion-dependent again, with a reduced reticulocyte count, a negative direct Coombs´ test and no evidence of a viral or autoimmune aetiology. VNTR analysis at that time showed 10% host haemopoiesis in the peripheral blood and a bone marrow aspirate showed decreased erythropoiesis and myelopoiesis, with reduced erythroid blast-forming units (BFU-E).
