Definition |
A task in which a patient is asked to repeat an auditory model of a sentence. A task in which a patient can be asked to repeat an auditory model of a letter name, a non-word or a sentence. This task cannot be univocally interpreted, since, to be performed, it requires a good articulatory capacity and a good oral message decoding ability. The information obtained from this task is of huge importance to discriminate different disturbances, but has to be assessed only on the basis of all the performances of the patient in different situations.

Context |
For example, Trost and Canter (1974) found different distributions of error types using a naming task and a repetition task; that is, subjects produced a greater proportion of responses that could not be judged phonemically in a naming task than in repetition. Such differences are not at all surprising, considering the nature of these test paradigms. Failure to name reflects more than verbal output problems; rather, word-finding deficits can interact with the phonological disorder.
