Therapy proceeded in a small-step hierarchical manner. Word structure was introduced by comparing visually similar words (i.e. syllable metathesis, letter substitutions, etc.) and choosing letters which belong to particular words. Syntax was introduced by assembling sentences with words in the phonological section, comparing pictures with their corresponding sentences and giving the patient anagram sentences which had to be unscrambled. All patients improved in linguistic skills, although this could be attributed to spontaneous recovery.
