Context Thus in word-retrieval, the phonemic cue provides the first phonetic element in the available abstract form which will assist the patient in locating the remainder of the phonetic pattern of the target word (Podraza et al., 1977). Rather than having the clinician supply a phonemic cue, another therapeutic technique entails having the patient self-generate these cues. In one study, it was hypothesized that in order to generate a phonemic cue one must (1) indicate UK initial letter of the word which cannot be retrieved, (2) convert this letter into it!
