An inability to perform voluntary motor movements of the face, lips, and tongue on command. An inability to perform voluntary motor movements of the face, lips, and tongue on command. It is tested by having patients perform nonspeech oral gestures in the absence of objects (e.g. blowing out a match). The lesion commonly includes the left central operculum and anterior insula; consequently, buccofacial apraxia frequently coexists with Broca’s aphasia.
