The wobble board is a piece of non-flexing plywood with a spherical base allowing 360 degrees of movement over 10-20 degrees of tilt. Wobble boards are commonly used by physiotherapists in the rehabilitation of patients with a variety of diagnoses and within a range of clinical specialisms. They are purported to improve dynamic balance, range of movement, co-ordination, proprioception (joint position sense) and confidence.
Athletes are encouraged to do this slowly and without pain. To initiate proprioceptive training along with improving range of motion, a wobble board (Fig. 2) may be used. These exercises should be done at high repetitions (20-30).
