A hanger-like device that is made of an U-shaped, solid cylindrical steel bar and is suspended form the ears of a travelling block on a drilling rig. It is designed to provide working distance between the travelling block and the elevators that are used to grip and lift or lower tubular goods in the well.
When coming out of the hole with the conventional drillpipe elevator system, the drill collars must be removed either with a lifting sub or with a second elevator that utilises a groove in the drill collar. To use D-C LIFT, however, it is usually necessary to remove the regular drillpipe elevator from the links.
