Context |
As the drillpipe is used it gets worn by dragging against the formation. The box tool joints lose thickness and so do the pipe bodies. Decreased wall cross-sections automatically entail a loss of mechanical resistance. This is why API has classified used pipe into: Class I new pipe, all dimensions match nominal values, Premium 80% of the thickness remaining, Class II 70% of the thickness remaining.
