Synonym of Phonemic cue
Part of speech Noun phrase
Context It is interesting that the aphasic patient´s performance seems to be relatively better preserved in the processing of prosodic cues than of segmental cues. The reason for this dichotomy could reflect a hierarchical organization of phonological cues, with melody cues being simpler or perceptually more basic. Alternatively, it could reflect the participation of the nondominant hemisphere in the processing of these cues. In summary, the perception of segmental cues in aphasia is clearly impaired. However, the patterns of disintegration are systematic and reflect the relation of the distinctive feature attributes of the phonemic contrasts.
