Reports of isolated agraphia are sparse, and there is little consensus as to a lesion site. Exner (1881) postulated a writing center at the foot of the second frontal gyrus, separate from Broca’s area. Other reports of pure agraphia (Assal, Chapuis, & Zander, 1970; Henschen, 1922; Mahoudeau, 1950; Mahoudeau, David, & Lecoeur, 1951; Morselli, 1930; Sinico, 1926; Wernicke, 1903) support a frontal localization. Pentield and Roberts (1959) observed transient agraphia following surgical excision of F2 and F3.
