Fracture of the posterolateral tubercle usually occurs from a sudden jump on the ball of the foot or toes (eg, in basketball or tennis) or from stepping backward off a chair with force. Toe walkers who have elongated lateral talar tubercles (Stieda´s processes) seem prone to this injury.
