An MRL is the maximum concentration of pesticides residues (expressed as mg/kg), which is expected in a product if a pesticide has been applied correctly to the crop. MRLs are primarily a check that Good Agricultural Practice is being followed and to assist international trade in produce treated with pesticides. MRLs are not safety limits
Community MRLs are based on good agricultural practice data and raw commodities as well as foods derived from them that comply with the MRLs are intended to be toxicologically acceptable.
