Part of speech Noun phrase
Grammatical label Countable
Definition Bow and stern thrusters are often mounted with a tunnel, i.e. a cavity made of stainless steel, aluminum or other material, to avoid cavitation. The smaller its diameter, the less resistance it offers to navigation. Furthermore, a smaller diameter allows for mounting near the bow, thus increasing the boat’s rudder torque.
Definition source Piercey 2002
Context For additional safety, the bow thruster tunnel openings are engineered with protective grate covers to prevent debris from entering them.
