Electric bilge pumps are generally thought of as maintenance pumps. With several high GPH (Gallons Per Hour) capacity pumps in the bilge, though, they can also be used for emergencies. Most electric pumps can be wired so that operation is completely manual, or with the addition of a float or water-level switch and three-way control (off-manual-automatic) can be made to operate automatically.
We have always carried a manual bilge pump in case the electric bilge pump fails - the ’frightened man with a bucket’ cannot get his bucket into my engine bilge, though you can access a higher bilge (that drains into the engine bilge) in the floor ski locker between the front main seats.
