This design combines movable flukes with a lot of weight. They are made of lead, sometimes coated with vinyl, and feature bulb and pivoting weight design. Navy anchors hold especially well in soft bottoms and are fairly popular, especially in freshwater, but they have a poor holding-power-to-weight ratio. They are manufactured in 5- to 20-pound sizes, the larger of which do not hold as well as much lighter Danforths.
