The horizontal angle between the direction of true north or south and that of the object which the bearing is being taken. When taken by a magnetic compass which is subject to variation and deviation it has to be corrected by these before a true bearing is obtained.
A range is a pair of objects, either naturally occurring or constructed specifically for this purpose, which when lined up, give the navigator a known LOP. Position can be fixed by lining up a charted range and plotting its bearing as an LOP. By taking a bearing of another object, you can plot your position at the intersection of these 2 LOPs.
