A pain in the head. A headache can have many causes. These include muscle tension, swollen blood vessels (as in a vascular, or migraine, headache), medications, allergies, sinus infection or pressure, exertion, hormonal cycles, or even inflammation of the brain or a brain tumor. Treatment depends on the type and severity of the headache, and on the age of the patient. Also referred to as cephalgia.
