A course of treatment with anti-cancer drugs given to the child after inductionchemotherapy while in remission with the aim of killing as many of the remaining leukemia cells as possible. The greater the reduction in leukemia cells, the higher the probability that natural defenses will suppress the disease and result in a very long-term remission. This phase lasts 4-8 months. Several drugs are used in combination, depending on the child´s risk category.
