| Grows 5 to 10cm in length with its smooth-skinned upperside being yellow to olive brown, while the underside is yellow. As the newt ages, it loses its bright colour. There are many black or red spots over the body, but the number of red spots vary among the subspecies. The black spots on the sides of the compact tail are larger and more diffuse in breeding males. |
