        Step 1:  Assemble the pieces of the upper. Soak the upper in water. Begin  by attaching the insole of the shoe to the Last. Stretch  the Upper over the Last, and tack it  into place. Let this dry. Step 2:  Carefully untack the dried upper. It should retain its stretched shape. If it doesn´t,  you will want to untack and stitch a little bit at a time. Carefully stitch the  upper to the insole as shown in the picture. Do not  stitch the area of overlap to the sole. Step 3:  Sew  the Welt to the outer edge of the upper. Step 4: Trim away any excess material from the  "Lasting Margin" as close to the stitching as you can. (The Lasting Margin is  the seam and the nearest edge. Remove the shoe from the Last. At this point, the welt can be attached to the sole. The flattening of the welt may  make the insole flex inward a bit. This is fine, as this is where the padding or  filler will be placed.
