Manager or military type? City slicker or country kid? Smart and swish or uncouth and untamed? The new century man seems eternally torn between two paths, at times choosing one, at times the other, at times mixing blatantly opposite styles to produce bizarre contrasts. Moschino´s docs and military get-up offer the more adventurous an appetising alternative to conventional moccasins and Vivienne Westwood´s ever-so-English shoes. And those who just can´t settle for one style statement can always get their kicks out of playing around with contrasts. For there´s plenty to play around with: classic cut pants tucked inside clumpy ski boots, butch boots straight out of Blade Runner with Velcro fastenings, worn with exquisite white coats, not to mention school-kids´ black backpacks twinned with nothing less than pinstripes and silk tie. For Miu Miu the heart of contradiction beats within the accessory itself: brown leather ankle boots sport a rubber toe with aerodynamic design and an eye-catching colour reminiscent of biker boots .
