A term used to designate the entire class of cardiac glycosides, one of the most important and widely used group of drugs in clinical medicine. They are obtained from the plants Digitalis purpurea and Digitalis lanata.
In long term studies patients with heart failure have improved in exercise tolerance and other symptoms following the addition of an ACE inhibitor to standard therapy with digitalis and diuretics.
