Acetic acid ester of choline, a normal costituent of many body tissues. It is the chemical mediator of cholinergic nerve impulses. It has been used in the treatment of a variety of diseases, but its effects are variable and transient.
The data do not support the concept of essential hypertension as a condition necessarily associated with reduced vasodilation to acetilcholine, an endothelial-mediated vasodilator.
