Class of diuretics which act in the distal tubule, thereby preventing some of the exchange of sodium and potassium that occurs in this portion of the nephron.
Potassium sparing diuretics are usually not used by themselves; they are weak diuretics and are relatively ineffective in lowering blood pressure when used alone.
