A clinical condition characterised by truncal and facial adiposity, hypertension, fatigability and weakness, polycythemia, amenorrhea or impotence, hirsutism, purple striae, purpura like ecchymoses, edema, glycosuria, osteoporosis and increased susceptibility to infections due to excess of adrenocortical hormone cortisol.
The excess cortisol that characterises Cushing’s syndrome exerts a sufficient intrinsic salt-retaining effect to expand volume and lead to hypetension.
