| Current electronic funds transfer systems have no method of ensuring that payment is made only against the security of documents of title. EFTs are simply internal accounting exercises on the computers involved, and until dematerialised bills of lading and other documents of title are devised, no electronic equivalent of the letter of credit is possible. |
